Wave Riders Wanted

What Surfers Can Teach Us

1. Prepare: Read the tide charts, check the weather, anticipate, bring everything you need.

2. The wave doesn't just come to you. You have to paddle out to the wave.

3. Practice presence and catch the "glide": a spiritual place "in the zone" where everything aligns---the wave, the surfer and the board are one.

4. Enjoy the "Green Room"---riding inside the tube.

5. When the wave seems to be crashing down around you, stay calm, focused, present and ride it out.

6. Go to where the waves are. Just because surfing is great today in Maui, doesn't mean surf's up tomorrow. Pick up your board, jump in the car and GO!

7. Sometimes a great destination may come as an unexpected surprise. Did you know that one of the best surf spots from September to May is Donegal Bay in Ireland? Only challenge is ... BURRRR, it can get a little cold!
